Birthdays

I believe in “signs”. I was recently talking with someone that told me it was his sons 6th birthday. The son was asked to perform 6 good deeds. I thought what a great idea too bad my kids are grown. The next day I was reading a blog and the woman wrote that it was her 43 birthday and she was doing 43 random acts of kindness. My 48 th birthday is at the end of this month. Even though I try to do good deeds, I am going to go outside my box and do 48 good things that I would not normally do. What a great way to celebrate the life you were given.

HuffPost Launches Good News

Hello kind-posters! The Huffington Post just launched a section called “Good News” that seeks to spread good news stories. Arianna Huffington writes,

I’m delighted to announce the launch of HuffPost Good News, a new section that will shine a much-needed spotlight on what’s inspiring, what’s positive, what’s working — and what’s missing from what most of the media chooses to cover.

Everywhere around the country, people and communities are doing amazing things, overcoming great odds, and facing real challenges with perseverance, creativity and grace. But these stories are rarely told online, in newspapers, and on TV (especially if you live in a primary state being bombarded with negative attack ads). HuffPost Good News will be using a variety of storytelling tools to bridge the wide gap that separates the world as it is from the world as portrayed by the bulk of the media.

I think that this new “Good News” section is incredibly exciting and much needed! Plus, its mission aligns perfectly with the kind-post mission. In the last month or so, posts on kind-post have slowed to a veritable standstill. I did anticipate this, but I do still want to spread the word about kind-post to encourage more people to post here. If you like kind-post and want to help me spread the word, please take a second to comment on Huffington’s launch story for HuffPost Good News, tweet at @hpgoodnews, and spread the word on Facebook. With your help, as more people discover HuffPost Good News, they will discover kind-post too!

Thank you kindly,

Megan

Much needed package

I went to check the post office on Saturday, we’re new to the area and I assumed they were open. Anyway, we got a slip in our PO Box stating we had a package but the counter is closed on Saturday.

This package had a check and other documents which we were in need of. So Monday rolls around, I call the post office, and find out they close at 4:30. We only have one vehicle, and my husband drives 50 miles to work every day and usually is not home until 6 pm.

So I was sitting outside watching my son play mulling over how we could get this package. When my landlord walks by, smiles, and says hello. She immediately asks what is wrong. I guess I don’t hide my frustrations well. Anyway, I explained the situation, and this kind woman says sweetie, get in my car, I will take you to the post office. Such a small thing had such a big impact.
Thank you Mina, for being a kind person.

A wonderful neighbor and friend

On a cold, snowy morning, it is such a great feeling to look out my window and see my driveway and sidewalks all beautifully shoveled. I have the best neighbor in Tim Cunningham, who does things like that because he’s a good and generous man. He shovels walks for those who are older or need help. And all of this is before he goes to work. Thanks, Tim.

Stairs Can Be Difficult

My grandmother is in her 90′s, so stairs can be difficult sometimes, but i watched my aunt jump up every time my grandma needed to go up or down a flight of stairs. She’s a kind and loving person, and sometimes i need a reminder to be a bit more patient, and a perhaps a little more helpful.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! What kindnesses are you thankful for today?

Today, I am thankful for my mom who works so hard every Thanksgiving to make a delicious dinner. And I am thankful that my three siblings who live in St. Louis all made it home for the holiday. And I am thankful to everyone who has helped spread the word about kind-post and posted their stories on the site. Thanks!

Thank you kindly,

Megan

Missing Posts?

If you submitted a post but it was never published, will you please let me know by commenting on this post or on the Facebook wall? I’ve published every post that has come through, so if yours has not been published that means I never saw it. Which means that there is probably a bug in the submission form. If I know about the problems, then I can try my best to fix them. So if you experience any problems with this site (with the submission form or otherwise), can you post those as well?

A Generous Giver

Recently, Younkers, a department store here in Omaha, had a community fundraiser. For each donation of a certain amount to charity, the giver received a $10 Younkers coupon.

While I was waiting in line to score the perfect gift for my brother, the man in front of me dropped a handful of those $10 coupons. The salesclerk noticed it and returned them to him. Instead of putting them back in his wallet, he started handing them out to everyone in line! What a generous man!

What Gentlemen!

When I was walking to class yesterday someones car stalled going up a hill. Immediately, 6 boys stopped walking home/to class and helped him push his car to the parking lot!

You hear so many stories about people walking by when they see something bad and these guys instead offered to help. It was so awesome to see!
